AmarSundari Rasa - Usage, Dosage


Reference – Nighantu Ratnakara

Amarsundari Vati Ras is herbomineral Ayurvedic medicine in tablet form. This medicine is prepared from purified Mercury, purified Sulphur, Trikatu, Triphala and several other medicinal herbs. It is indicated in treatment of about eighty Vata rog. It is also named as Vijaybhairava in Ras yog sagar text.
Vata rog are Neurological Disorders. These are diseases of the brain, spinal cord, cranial nerves, peripheral nerves, nerve roots, autonomic nervous system, neuromuscular junction, and muscles.
These disorders include epilepsy, Alzheimer disease and other dementias, cerebrovascular diseases including stroke, migraine and other headache disorders, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, neuro infections, brain tumors, traumatic disorders of the nervous system such as brain trauma, and neurological disorders as a result of malnutrition.

Ingredients of Amarsundari vati
12 grams each
1.   Shudh Parad, 
2.   Shudh Gandhak,
3.   Shunthi,
4.   Pippali,
5.   Marich,
6.   Amalaki,
7.   Haritaki,
8.   Bibhitak,
9.   Renuka,
10.                Pippalimool, 
11.                Chitrak,
12.                Twak,
13.                Tamalpatra,
14.                Naagkeshar,
15.                Ela,
16.                Akarkarabh,
17.                Vidang, 
18.                Musta,
19.                Shudh Vatsanabh and 
20.                Loh Bhasma.
480 grams Jaggery/Gud.
Shudh (purified) Parad, Shudh Gandhak are blended together to form Kajjali.
Shunthi, Pippali, Marich, Amalaki, Haritaki, Bibhitak, Renuka, Pippalimool, Chitrak, Twak, Tamalpatra, Naagkeshar, Ela, Akarkarabh, Vidang, Musta, Shudh Vatsanabh and Loh Bhasma are pounded to form a coarse powder and mixed with the Kajjali. Gud (Jaggery) is heated till it melts and Kajjali mixture is added to it. The mixture is stirred till a uniform blend is achieved. This formulation is called Amarsundari Ras.

Uses of Amarsundari vati
  • Hysteria
  • Epilepsy
  • Nervous Diseases
  • Delirium (severe confusion and disorientation)
  • Rheumatic fever, rheumatic pains
  • Vata roga (Neurological disorders)
Dosage of Amarsundari vati
1 to 2 tablets (375 to 750mg) to be taken in the morning and evening with lukewarm water or as directed by the Physician.
For kaphaja disease to be taken with Ginger juice and in Saanipata disease to be taken with tulsi juice or ginger juice.

Effect on Tridosha – Balances Kapha and Sannipata

AMAR SUNDARI GUTIKA Side Effects

Take this medicine in precise dose and for limited period of time, as advised by doctor. Self-medication with this medicine may prove to be dangerous, since it contains metal as ingredients.Over-dosage may cause sever poisonous effect. This medicine is not suitable during pregnancy, lactation and in children. Keep out of reach and sight of children. Store in a dry cool place.

Side effects in childern and baby
Fda evaluation is still uncomplete. However common AMAR SUNDARI GUTIKA side effects are
1. Mental activity changes
2. Metabolic changes
3. AMAR SUNDARI GUTIKA caused Growth rate alteration.
